Make It Matter. Three words that will always mean something very special to me. Three words I will never forget.
I have faced many challenges this past year, some bigger than others, but few challenges can compare to my candidacy for LSU Student Government Vice President. It has been so difficult, yet so rewarding and so much fun. I have learned so many incredible things about LSU and about the even more incredible people who attend college here. Things I would have never been exposed to if I had decided not to run.
Back in October when Helen told me she was running for President and wanted me to be her running mate, I had some very serious doubts about myself. Would I be good enough? Was I the right person for this honor? Just being able to say that you were a contender for the office of President/Vice President at this great university is a claim few people will ever be able to make. I was beyond honored that Helen asked me, but I was so nervous that I would not be able to adjust to campaigning and all the exposure that comes with it while juggling school, organizations I am involved in, and my personal life back home. But some feeling I cannot explain was urging me to rise to the challenge and meet it.
I can proudly say, now 4 months later, that Helen and I have met those challenges together with our amazing supporters and candidates by our sides. All the fear and doubt I had quickly disappeared when we made our first few organizational visits in the fall semester. Helen and I met freshman year, but we never really worked together in any goal-oriented, teamwork capacity. Well, all I can say is there must be some very special connection that always existed between us, waiting to be uncovered, because Helen and I are so in sync with each other and work so well in tandem when it comes to working hard and overcoming challenges. It truly is unbelievable sometimes. But what is even harder for me to believe is how Helen and I became so fortunate to have such amazing candidates.
Our candidates… they get it. They are involved in this for the right reasons. Through their dedication, passion, love, and support, they embody exactly what I dreamed of when I imagined what our candidates would be like back in the fall. It has not been easy. I never expected this to be. The way our candidates and amazing staff carry themselves in everything they do just reaffirms that I would not want to be doing this with any other group of people.
Thank you, to everyone who believes in Helen and me, in the entire Make It Matter campaign, and in everything we stand for. It has truly been a wonderful, eye-opening journey.
And as the final days of this campaign draw to a close, regardless of what happens, this whole experience is something I will always be proud to have played a role.

How does one start a blog the night before the day you are officially running for LSU Student Body President? "Hey cool cats" and "I don't get tired" were two not so viable options.
Before this year I would not have imagined ever putting myself through this entire experience. Before this semester I would have never expected this incredible outcome.
This campaign has surpassed ALL of my wildest dreams. Nothing can beat the feeling of reading paragraphs written by people that hardly know you about how much they believe in you and the mission you have set out on. I spent all of last week in Free Speech Plaza listening to these people tell other students about an organization that they previously cared so little about but now had incomparable passion for.
But why? I'm still not quite sure, but I am so appreciative. To some people I'm "too excited" or maybe just a bit nuts, but only because I really, truly, honestly, genuinely care. Student Government serves the people of LSU and I love nothing more than SG, LSU and people, so yeah maybe I get a little bit over the top but WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!
Anyway, this entire process has been so incredible that no matter how it turns out I will regret nothing. Wesley, our staff, and our candidates have worked tirelessly over the past few months and we have already made our work matter, and that's what counts to me. I have learned, grown, met new people, had new experiences and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
Thank you immensely to everyone that has supported us especially those who don't even go to school here! But for all of you who do, vote Make It Matter.
