Academics
Improving & Strengthening Connections between Counselors & College Councils
Set up a better system for dialogue between students and counselors,
specifically focusing on UCFY assisting the transition into senior colleges and
revamping the Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
Revision of Exam Schedules
Elimination of Saturday finals and align exam week with class schedules.
Academic Schedule Revamp (Hot Seat)
Include in academic holidays a full day off for students on Wednesday.
Campus Life
Create a Campus Life department within Student Government (Candidates)
Student Government should serve as a central outreach organization on
campus. Specifically, we would like to create a contact database and
streamline communication by implementing a Director of Campus Life within
the Executive Branch to serve as a student Campus Life liaison.
Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental health is one of the most crippling problems on a college campus,
and Student Government should take the initiative in encouraging positive
mental health by partnering with the Mental Health Center on campus and
other resources in Baton Rouge.
Diversity
Finding Your Fit (International Student Association)
When we spoke with International students, one major recurring concern
was the lack of networking and opportunities available to them at career
fairs. We learned of similar problems with some areas of engineering as
well as minority students. There are professionals out there that want to
find you, and Student Government can help make those opportunities
available by ensuring Career Fairs offer diversity.
Stick It to the Man (Hot Seat)
Many students feel unsafe walking in poorly lit areas after classes,
meetings or studying late. Offer reflective stickers for students to have
on their person when walking on campus after dark while working on
long-term solutions for lighting.
Transportation & Parking
Extended Bus Routes (Hot Seat)
Many commuting students rely on Tiger Trails for transportation. The
current routes present concerns for many students’ safety when walking
from bus stops to heavily populated complexes around campus.
Too Blessed to Park Stressed
Student Government sponsored spots in the parking garage reserved for
students testing in Himes or utilizing the Olinde Center.
Programming
There’s an App for That
Improve the LSU mobile app by relocating the LSU Shield app for easier
access and visibility. Integrate a Student Government portal to provide
an outlet for feedback on facilities, contact info and campus news.
Facilities
Make It Green
Work with Facility Services to improve water sustainability in bathrooms
and water fountains, as well as energy systems across campus.
Communications
Olinde Career Center Liaison
A Student Government Liaison to the Career Center on the Executive Branch.
“Take the Initiative” Initiative (Make It Matter team)
Student Government permeating campus and continuing to “Listen” to
students by offering platforms for communication such as SG “Office Hours,”
better social media outreach and Communication Forums.
