Just a bit of information before I get started…I am writing this blog in my post Dance Marathon state which basically means that I could fall asleep on my laptop at any moment while typing this up. My body is tired and I can barely walk, but as I bring back the memories that we all made those 26.2 hours of dancing and standing for the kids at Our Lady of the Lake, my heart feels like it could fly out of my chest and everything is worth it.
No, this is not a blog post about Dance Marathon (even though it made a huge impact on the lives of kids and my own life as well), but rather a blog post about what my passion is and why I support Helen and Wesley’s campaign ticket called Make It Matter.
Service.
Just as I witnessed throughout Dance Marathon this past weekend, LSU students have the power to achieve great accomplishments through sacrifice, hard work, and enthusiasm. Through service, individuals or teams can work together through their sacrifices of money, time, and talents for a cause they believe in. And through service, one puts others before his/herself and her own needs and does everything possible to improve the life of someone else. Helen and Wesley have already shown their sacrifices to create a campaign and make it the most successful one they can. They are putting all their efforts to ensure that the students get their ideas heard and their problems solved. Through their hard work, they will not just try to win a campaign and the title of president and vice president of Student Government, but continue to be an advocate for the students throughout the rest of their term. And finally, Helen and Wesley show so much enthusiasm for LSU, its diverse student body, and for the idea that every person deserves a say in the workings of Student Government with ways that this school can be improved for everyone.
Service has been such as huge part of my life and I hope that I will get the opportunity to serve the students of the LSU community which is why I choose to support Helen and Wesley who also strive to make a difference in the lives of every student here. With the best intentions in mind and heart, we hope to make a difference and Make It Matter.
As a final note, I would like to genuinely thank Helen and Wesley for coming out to Dance Marathon this weekend and showing their support for all the dancers and for helping raise money for Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital! It meant so much to all of us that we all unite together to Make the Kids Matter!
